Today was my first time in a ring for a couple years I think.
Some of you know that part of my background is pro wrestling with a dash of MMA. I’m not a wrestler, but from working in the indy scene since 2002 I can say I’ve taken my fair share of bumps.
Anyhow it felt good to be back. The steel cage was new to me though.
Bret “Hitman” Hart

Saving the best for last, my final blog post of the year is the biggest highlight of 2008. Most of you know, I grew up on professional wrestling and spend time working local independent shows today. The picture above is my wrestling idol Bret “Hitman” Hart.
Bret was the guy who made me start watching wrestling. His on-air personality immediately clicked with me, and got me to look past the pink and black tights he wore to the ring. I’m not a fan of the color pink one bit, but this is one example of a life lesson I took from him. The familiar quote “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” is the best way I can explain it. I’m always optimistic when it comes to people, and one could pass by a really great person if you let the color pink affect your judgement.
“The excellence of execution” and “The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be” are the two trademark quotes of Bret Hart. I’ve always enjoyed trying to become good at whatever comes my way. Taking life’s events as a challenge gives me the feeling that I need to win or succeed every time. However, just like in wrestling you win some, lose some, break a leg, get dropped on your neck, and other things that are not planned.
I know this blog post is one in millions of inspiration stories out there, but everyone has their own way of finding a niche and having something that keeps them going. This has been mine since the early 90s. Bret has been retired for quite a few years now. I’m glad to say that on October 15, 2008 I finally got to meet him in person.
I’m currently reading his book, which I promised myself I’d read cover-to-cover. Reading is a challenge for me, because I lack the patience to read an entire book no matter how good it is. This one I will read because it’s the best of the best.
